 Mini Garden Gazette
Happy News!!

**Photos may take a moment to load**

Hi ,

The leaves are turning here in the Seattle area but sometimes I miss the east coast's autumn color show along the highways and into the countrysides. BUT I do love the Evergreen State for being just that: evergreen! Find more insight into the evergreens for your miniature gardening below.

And so it begins! Did you know if you count Columbus Day or the Canadian Thanksgiving you can start the holidays now? Lol! I must be a crafter. If you recall I was already thinking about Christmas in July - it feels like it was only a few weeks ago. Hope your feeling inspired and creative as the cold weather creeps in - time for some miniature garden-making! Enjoy!

Whatever you do, make it fun,

PHOTO ABOVE: Call it "Done." Lol! The yellow leaves of a miniature Ginkgo Biloba tree decorates this miniature garden for the season.

NEW up on the Mini Garden Guru Blog this week:

We don't shut down for the winter like most nurseries do. We ship all year long simply because we can. A LOT of our trees are cold hardy too - so you don't have to wait for the seasons to have a reason to gardening in miniature or to get something green and alive into your life. Read more about it here. See the above tree, a pre-bonsai tree, here.

~~~~~~~~
IS NOT DYING!!! It's called "conifer dieback" and it's how the tree exfoliates. Slough it off and then clean it up so light and air can get to the inside of the tree or it will suffocate. This only happens when the trees are young, when it grows up it can take care of itself. Check your conifers for any conifer dieback right away, t'is the season!
When to Water in Winter - huh?
A little prep-work can get you through the winter months safely and without regret. The main thing to worry about for any container overwintering outdoors is watering, funnily enough.
The plant's roots will do fine if they are frozen but not freeze-dried. Keep an eye on the soil's moisture level up until it freezes AND keep watering your containers throughout the winter if they don't get enough - especially if they are up against a wall, the garage or the side of the house where it won't get enough rain.
You can use these winterizing tips for your regular garden containers and your full-sized garden beds too. These links will take you to the Mini Garden Guru blog:
