Focusing On Yew...

Happy Day !

In today's miniature garden we have a Dwarf Gold English Yew or Taxus baccata 'Goldener Zwerg' - a tough, slow-growing dwarf yew that doesn't seem to dissappoint. I haven't had this tree in stock since the winter of 2024 so I'm hoping it'll come up on the grower's availability soon. This garden was looking so lovely with the White Heronsbill blooming, I had to show it off to you.

The earliest photo That I found of this miniature garden was 2018, shown above decorated for a grinchy Christmas. 🎄 I've had to replaced the "bedding plants" a few times over the years because there is not a lot of room for them to really grow so they tend to "give-up" after about 1 or 2 years or so - which only means that you get to go miniature garden plant shopping again. 😃

White on White - The White Heronsbill is tucked in with the white miniatures to make a charming gardening in miniature. It's large-size or 1-inch scale. The pot is painted terra cotta - that I'm shocked it hasn't broken in any of the winter freezes over the years here in Seattle. (But it'll break this winter now that I've said it. Lol!) 

The custom miniature patio was installed right in the pot when the garden was built over 7 years ago. I used a flagstone sheet with our Mini Patio Mix Kit.

That's Dixie the Digging Dog - She is supposed to be trained not to dig in the garden bed! 

This bed is an accidental mix of miniature plants: 

• The tiny lobed leaves are Miniature Daisies. 
• The silver rose that in the front is the Cape Blanco Sedum. 
• The rosettes to the right of it and in front of the fence in the back are Hens and Chicks. 
• That one pink and green plant just above those two is a tricolor sedum.
• The pointy-leafed plant in the back is Sedum Angelina. (Sedum rupestre)
• That solo big leaf that's beside Dixie is a miniature Calla Lily that is going dormant. (Maianthemum bifolum kamtschat. 'Minima')
• The random Sedum beside the rock and the fence it the Sedum lydium.
• I told you it was a mix. Lol! 🪴

Puttering: Required and Strongly Recommended

Hi !

ICYMI - I'm STILL in the middle of a website renovation - so not voluntary at all and so far from the world of gardens and crafts BUT Yours Truly, the ultimate optimist, found the good that comes with it!  

My biggest challenge was to "allow" myself the time and the space to putter and plant - because a new website SHOULD come with new photos, right? And new photos mean new miniature gardens! Yay! 

But I kept thinking to myself, "No, I have to finish this website copy/design/formatting/testing before I can have some fun." 

And, gladly, I have found that that does not work. 😅

It's the balance - the fun mixed with the work - that makes it move along more joyfully and, well, more efficiently. By focusing an hour or three each day to doing something else besides plunking on a keyboard, it helped focus my computer time and thus made ME focus and, in turn, made me a lot more productive - the new website is almost there! 

So, don't put off your creative puttering time - you NEED it to balance in this life! Go ahead and dedicate a ½ hour, or a full afternoon - whatever you can, whenever you can - to moving your projects and ideas forward and watch your other not-so-fun-work-chores move forward too. 

Whatever you do, make it fun. - J 💚
