Happy MLK Weekend!

Hi !

I hope this finds you cozy and warm with some miniature gardening planned for the long weekend. I mean, really, what else is there to do? 😜

I brought back this miniature garden today to fill-in some of the details I missed last week. There's so much happening in my big in-ground garden now that it's been growing together for a few years. The plants won't mind if I move or divide them in the middle of winter as our soil seldom freezes - it's the gardener (Me!) that doesn't like cold, wet gardening. Lol! See more below. 

Survey Says! It's Still a "New" Hobby!

To fun! Many, many thanks for your responses to "Do you think miniature gardening still a "new" hobby?" It was fun to see what you guys think - and I enjoyed that a LOT. 

There were two answers: (1) Most other hobbies have been around for a loooong time so, in comparison, miniature garden is still very new. (2) If someone hasn't heard of miniature garden yet - it's still new to them! Both make perfect sense...

... so take a minute and pat yourself on the back for still being a pioneer in the hobby world. Such rebels we are! 😆

Above and At Top: That wonderful shrub in the top, left is a Hinoki Cypress that I've seemed to have lost the name for but its form similar to a Threadbranch Cypress like the 'Golden Mop' that we have on sale this week. (The Golden Mops wears a lovely yellow color in the sun or greener in the shade very similar above.) 

The branches coming in from the top, right, are from the Jervis Canada Hemlock. If you haven't been introduced to the miniature and dwarf Hemlocks yet and you are in an area where they can grow, Zones 4 through 8, they are fantastic trees for our hobby. (See what Hemlocks we have in stock here.)

Underneath the branches are the Alpine Ferns (Blechnum penna-marina) that can get a little wild - cut them out wherever you don't want them. We hope to see them in stock soon. 

The pathway has been covered in Blue Star Creeper (Pratia) on the right, Baby Tears (Soleirolia soleirolii) on the left, and Corsican Mint beside the Adirondack chair (discontinued!) and the moss is natural. These ground covers should be available when the weather starts to warm up in a month or two.

Just a couple of accessories will cinch the scale, and let the plants do the rest. In this scene above, the fence tells the scale of the garden and the wee bunny brings it alive. Place your miniature animals where they would be found in a full-sized garden to keep the realism going. The ground cover that the bunny nibbling on 😉 is the Baby Tears or Soleirolia soleirolii.
