Hi !
Spring came and teased us for a day here in Seattle. It was sunny and 72F (22C) on Wednesday and I worked my winter
muscles way too hard and got a little sunburnt - it was wonderful. Lol! Maybe if we all think really hard, we can get the warmer spring weather to happen sooner! 😃
New plants in stock this week, fresh from the growers. More new plants and miniatures are arriving every week now. See? It really IS
spring!
Today's Tip - Remember What You Did Last Summer?
So, remember how I tell you to take photos of your miniature gardens throughout
the year? Well, it's mostly for bragging purposes to keep your family and friends up to date on your hobby, 😀 but it's also for documenting your plants. Because right now, it's "that time" where you might dig up a deciduous perennial by accident - speaking from experience here.
A deciduous perennial is a very fancy term for the
garden plants that die right back to the soil to go dormant for the winter. Meaning, you can't see any leaves or growth in the winter months - it's all happening beneath the soil-line. THIS is the time where I make my usual mistake and dig into established Miniature Iris tubers or upend the little Globe Daisy rootballs. Ugh. So, pull-up those photos before you dig-in!
MORE: While we can always rearrange and replant our miniature gardens at any time throughout the year, it's also fun to let the plants get established for a couple/few years and colonize on their own. Then when it's finally time to pull the garden apart to replant it you can divide the perennials to more plants! 😍
