Happy Summer, !
And the livin' is easy... We hope this finds you savoring the summer as best as you can. Note that I say this
with the AC on in the other room, waiting for me. Lol!
What a "wonderful" week it's been, eh? I bet you're so ready to get in the garden and get lost in the foliage. I know I am! The weather is getting a bit cooler and I'm bound and determined to get some real garden therapy this weekend.
Today's Tip:
Summer chores in the miniature garden are minimal now. We can sit back and enjoy the fruits of our labor for the most-part. But if you're like me, and want to get your hands dirty, here's a
quick list of July's gardening to-do's:
- Deadhead your spent flowers so you get more.
- Prune any wayward branches. Not a hard prune, just an gentle clean up to keep the plant's overall shape in check
- Weed, weed, weed. I have a hidden spot next to my miniature garden bed, behind a (full-sized) shrub where I can throw the odd weed or three when I'm browsing my garden. When the pile gets too big, I move it to the compost bin.
- Use organic pest control - it works and it doesn't cost a thing: disturb the
aphids / whiteflies / bugs with a good sharp-spray of water, whenever you water. They'll move on to an easier life somewhere else. Works like a charm.
- Water, water, water. Some like to water at night but it creates dampness which encourages mosquitoes if you enjoy the garden in the evening. I like to water in the mornings so the garden is nice and dry when the weather cools off
enough to sit outside.
- Too hot to play outside? Plan your fall gardening and your holiday mini-making. Remember all those times when you wished you had more time to get more decorations happening? (Plus - Halloween is coming!!)
