It's Fall Y'all!

Whoa Nelly! A funny thing happened as I was savoring the summer: fall happened! 

It really is uncanny. The weather here in the PNW must have a calendar posted somewhere. Really! As soon as Labor Day weekend hits, we get the cool, dewy mornings with the smell of fall in the air. Just like that, the tree's leaves are starting to change and summer is on its way out! I was hoping for something a little more gradual here Ma Nature... :o)

Fairy Garden Alert! 

For the fairy gardeners in the group: the Cicely Mary Barker fairies are BACK! For a limited time. We're testing to see if you like them!

We enjoyed playing with this brand of fairies many years ago. They are designed from the Cicely Mary Barker books on Flower Fairies which remain the quintessential fairy reading to this day. (Google 'Cicely Mary Barker fairies' to see the drawings.)

These fairy figures are so well-made, you could even call them realistic if you wanted to. The casting and painting is well done and ALL their faces are very pleasant - and do not resemble zombies - which is important to me. Lol! 

We've chosen the ones that look great in the miniature garden, that can either stand on their stake or sit on a bench/chair/stone or log - see them here. 

Today's Tip

Keep watering! I know now is the time where we're tired of dragging around the hose to water our gardens AND now is also the times when the rains come back, at least here in the PNW. BUT don't rely on the rain to water your gardens! More often or not, it's never enough. 

You can always check your soil by sticking your finger in it at least 1" deep to check the moisture content. If it's wet, wait. If it's dry, water... It really is the most convenient and reliable water gauge available and it's free. :o)

We gave them our own names for fun. The one above is Little Miss Hopeful. These two boy fairies are Master Bee on the left, Twink on the right. Behind them, Stonecrop Sedum ground cover on the left, Woolly Thyme on the right. 

We named this one Baby Angel. She can hold a flower, leaf or a book - or not. All these fairies come with a stake to help them stand up and stay in place in the miniature garden. She is standing among Woolly Thyme, the shrub above her shoulder is a ground cover Juniper, the Limeglow variety. Those chunky leaves in the front are Ice Plant or Delosperma congesta.
