Earth Day is
Every Day - Part 1 Hi ! Everyone! To the Garden! It's Earth Week! I think the world would be a much better place if everyone grew a garden. There's a lot to learn about: - patience -
waiting for that plant to grow or flower,
- tolerance - for the cycles of nature and what they bring to the garden,
- acceptance - appreciating the flow of nature rather than trying to control it,
- and faith - having faith that what you are nurturing will continue to grow.
But the one thing that is most important about gardening: "Everyone is invited to the party" when it comes to gardening! Even those hornets and wasps that we love to hate, the weeds that grow in the middle of our mini plants and the squirrels that run away with our accessories and bulbs. Cute. But
annoying. But everything is part of nature's ecosystem and everything works together - as nature intended. Now THAT'S something to celebrate every day! Dig In! Find the details on today's miniature garden below - it's a charmer! I love it when I can see several photos of the same garden over a couple/few years so I can show you what to expect in your miniature gardening. And I'm dusting-off my beginner miniature garden series, if you're just starting, the first one is all about the soil, linked below or see it here. You can always find EVERYTHING at MiniatureGarden.com - it's our hub for all that we do! Wowsa! We have MORE items back in stock this
week - it must be spring! Or, maybe we're preparing for National Miniature Garden Month next month...heh, heh, heh... :o) Scroll on down for more... Got a question ? Hit reply. And Happy Miniature Gardening! Make your world a "little" better every day, **All
links open to our own websites or channels.** The Moon Frost Canada Hemlock - One of our favorite Hemlocks for the miniature garden. The very-top photo was taken in 2013. The above photo was taken in 2016. You can see I did very little maintenance and it's still charming three years later in it's own kinda-way. :o) This garden was for a part shade or cool sun (eastern-sun) spot. That pot is about 10-inches wide and I think about 8-inches deep. The grassy plant on the left is Dwarf Mondo Grass - a tough ground cover that stays short, can be grown in a variety of conditions, including indoors. (More plants coming soon.) The fern-like plant on the right is the New Zealand Brass Buttons, Leptinella squalida, the leaves
are a bit bigger and the color is softer than the Platt's Black Brass Buttons, which is more dramatic in
texture and color. Both can be invasive if left to grow but it's easy to maintain in a miniature garden. Brass Button Maintenance Tip: You can literally pick up the runners (the stems) of the Brass Buttons and clip or pinch them back to the garden bed to clear-off the patio. You'll find
the runners all around the circumference of the pot too, it's how this ground cover spreads. Just handle the shoots the same way and pick them up, give them a gentle pull to where you want to cut them back to, and snip. It's hard work, but someone has to do it. :o)
