Happy Holly Days ! I hope your holiday season is going well! Steve and I have made a concerted effort to make it as relaxed as possible, to help wind-down a busy year. Which means forget the shopping, where's the food? Lol! Our snow
has finally disappeared and all the plants in our wee nursery are looking healthy and fresh! They handle the freezing temperatures MUCH better than I do. If you heard any whining over the last week or so, it was me. :o) I've tried something new with the Mini Garden Gazette this week. Let me know what
you think of the slightly new design. I'm tapping the archives with a little look back at some of our favorite holiday gardens. Hanukkah is coming up and, yes, we have more themed gardens to show you! Stay tuned! Above: I think that is the Pixie Dwarf Spruce, a slower-growing, smaller
version of the Jean's Dilly Dwarf Spruce. There is Red Thyme on the very left, Dwarf Mondo Grass in front of the trellis, the Pusch Norway Spruce beside the sign, and Platt's Black Brass Buttons at its base. Need any help with anything? Hit reply! Make your world a "little" better every day,
From the Archives, 2005: The Jean's Dilly Spruce anchors the back bed with an Armeria maritima to the right. In front of that is the Elfin Thyme. Those are Hens and Chicks in the other miniature garden bed.
Shown photographed at the West Seattle Nursery where I was selling them on commission.

From the Archives, 2008: The Jean's Dilly remains a favorite anchor tree at any time of year. It's hardy to -40F, great for containers and can handle full sun in the summertime - it just needs it's roots
to stay evenly damp. (A high-fired ceramic container can really help in maintaining the dampness of the soil.)
Need something a little more slower growing and just as hardy? Check out the Primo Arborvitae. I haven't said enough good things about this little tree. It's not only low maintenance, hardy, drought
tolerant and great for containers, it LOOKS like the miniature version of a full-sized Arborvitae - aka Western Red Cedar. Thank you for reading! Remember to water your miniature garden. From the Archives, 2013: That's the Lemon Cypress (aka Monteray Cypress) with a Sugar Vine at the base. It looks like I have some Baby Tears on the right. This was a sample pot / promo photo for a workshop
that I did at Swanson's Nursery. Janit Calvo is a Writer, Artist, Gardener, Entrepreneur, Self-Proclaimed Renaissance
