The Joy of Miniature Gardening
Hi ,
So, this just occurred to me: Do you know what the full-size-garden-gardeners* are doing right now?
Nothing.
Lol!
Meanwhile, back in our studio/shed/kitchen table, we-miniature-gardeners are busy painting, planting, pruning, sanding, drilling, planning, building and, well, having the best of times! AND we're able to KEEP playing with plants and gardening regardless of the weather, or the season.
Ain't it sweet?
In case you missed it, the new Lakeside Hideaway Kit and the Make a Real Fairy Pond Kit are HERE! I don't have the instructions yet but you can find them in the first Gardening in Miniature book, in the project section, on page 205. And, I had a chance to put together a Miniature Riverbed Kit too, see that here.
Read on! There's some insight into weather extremes and a few photos from the archives while I polish-off the new pages coming on in-ground miniature gardening for the Miniature Garden Society. I'm getting excited!
They say if you're feeling sad, learn something new. It works. Peruse our newly-designed blog for your "something new" here: Mini Garden Guru
Blog.
Stay safe! Whatever you do, make it fun!

EXTREME WEATHER TIP
For any and all extremes...
If the weather changes dramatically, in any way, the best thing you can do for your miniature gardens is try to minimize the difference as much as you can.
In the example above, from around 2006: Sometimes it takes someone "flipping the switch" here in Seattle, to get the summer weather. The year this photo was taken, we went from a cool spring to a hot summer quite quickly. I knew my plants were not acclimatized to the hot sun and hotter temps.
To help them along, I used our garden umbrella to shade them during the hottest time of the day, until the weather cooled a bit and they could acclimatize on their own. I didn't keep the umbrella on it on all summer, just until I knew they had a week or so to adjust to the new weather.
One of my concerns was the foliage was not adjusted to the all-of-a-sudden-scorching sun.
My other worry was that the soil would dry out too quickly and/or too often with the heat and sun.
If the conifer's roots are not kept cool and damp, the foliage will start to scorch in the sun. If this is happening to your conifer, give the garden a good, long drink of water. Then get a saucer to put under the pot to help
slow-down the water evaporation and keep the roots cool and damp.

A fun find the other day...
A few blog posts about miniature gardening and heatwaves...
From the Archives in 2013. The Moon Frost Canada Hemlock is trimmed-up a bit into a tree form. On the left is Dwarf Mondo Grass, on the right is the New Zealand Brass Buttons. The patio is made from our Caribbean Stone Sheet and

ABOUT OUR SHIPPING:
All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping
calculator can - if we can save you money on shipping, we will.
