I hope this finds you enjoying the spring season wherever you may be! We finally have some decent spring weather here in the PNW! ...And I find myself buried in the office with my taxes - insert major eye-roll here - so I'm keeping this short and sweet.
BUT I did get together the details of the Mother's Day garden below to inspire you! The garden was built in 2018 and has been growing-in very gracefully as planned. I can't recall doing any major work to it, except cleaning up any dead foliage, pulling the odd weed and giving it regular water. Oh, and sweeping the patio... :o)
And because this miniature garden has been together for a few years now, I know that it is now well-rooted and may dry out too quickly if left in full-sun because I know I'll forget to water it at one point or another. So, I'll give it a light fertilizing this season and keep it out of that hot, afternoon sun for the summer (- in part sun which really means about 6 hours of direct
sun.)
A spot in dappled shade on my back lanai will keep it happy - then I can decide next fall or winter, wether or not to pull it apart and replant it and build a new one, OR just thin it out by taking out a couple of the plants. I could risk another summer-season and might just get away with it, but I know that Scottish moss will need some attention - it gets a bit brown when it
doesn't have any place to grow.
You can begin to see how fun it is to have a miniature garden around. It doesn't just sit there lookin' all pretty - it does need you, my fellow MG, to help it along the way from time to time.
The high-glazed ceramic pot used for this mini garden is 22" in diameter by about 10" deep, which was a water bowl that was drilled for drainage. (You may recognize this bowl as I've been reusing it for years.)
Not all the accessories, plants and patio stones in the photos are available right now. The full-sized-pink-flowering plant in the back is a Bleeding Heart. Click on the photos to see more info up in the online store.
Whatever you do make it fun & Helloooo Spring!
