Hi !
It was only a week and a half ago, but the "major" snowstorm that hit us here in Seattle makes every day feel like spring now. Lol! I put "major" in quotes because I KNOW that what we get here in the PNW is just "kid's stuff" compared with some other parts of the country.
I'm a transplant from Toronto and I do feel blessed living here in the Washington State, aka the Evergreen State. Even though we're in winter, it stays so green here that I'm still amazed after living here for 22 years the plants STILL grow during the winter.
So this Gazette is for the angels that live among us. The unfortunate milestone that we hit here in the US left me lost for words until I remembered Mister Roger's mother's quote in times of stress and anxiety to "Look for the helpers." I can't think of better helpers than the angels that are among us!
A HUGE thank-you-is-not-enough THANK YOU to all our nurses, doctors, assistants and hospital workers, to the first responders, teachers and essential workers everywhere!
Please stay safe, stay grounded & stay creative with a lil' miniature gardening.
Whatever you do make it fun,

The Metal Rustic Rocker just happens to match the dwarf Sedge! I love it when a plan comes together that you didn't plan for... That's a Hebefolia Hemlock behind the rocker. More plant info on this garden in Friday's Gazette. More
plants on the way this spring! (See below if you are not ready for them yet.)
More from the Mini Garden Guru Blog:
Focal points & anchor points are full-sized garden design terms that we've shrunk to
fit our size of gardening. Here are some quickie-mini-garden-design tips:
A focal point is usually a piece of garden art, birdbath or a bench - something moveable and, I think its' safe to say it's usually man-made. The focal point focuses the eye/interest when you are "in" the garden.
An anchor point can be a big tree, a wee garden shed - usually something that isn't easily moveable. The anchor provides a place to start your garden design - and you build on the design from there with layering plants with it or creating paths to and fro for example. But, in miniature, you get to create the anchor point.
In this garden above, the anchor point would be that lovely Hemlock tree (Abbott's Pygmy Canada Hemlock,) that's in the back. The focal point would be the Tiny Cherub on a Pedestal. (Or two focal points really, if you want to include the Praying Angel.)
In my first book Gardening in Miniature, I've shrunk all the garden design rules to make your miniature gardening fun, satisfying and rewarding. See it here.
ICYMI - RESERVE YOUR SPRING TREES & SHRUBS
So, it's that time of year! While we always try to have a great selection of miniature garden trees and shrubs, not all the varieties are available at all times. To give all a fair chance at the spring trees and shrubs that we offer, we have a "purchase reserves the trees" program that we ONLY offer to our Mini Garden Gazette subscribers.
Which really means, if you are still frozen and see and miniature garden trees and/or shrubs that you like now, you can order them now and tell us when to send them.
This is ONLY for trees and shrubs - we can't save the ground covers or perennials for you unfortunately. *It's simply a matter of the timing: after 4 more months of the plant being in the nursery container during springtime, the biggest growth period of the year, the plant gets a bit stressed and we are just not able to provide you with a quality plant after
being held for the 3 or 4 months. Note that we always have a terrific spring selection of ground covers so not to worry!

The same miniature garden shown above, from last spring, May 2020. The bowl was a water bowl that was drilled for drainage. The bowl is 22" wide and 8" deep.

ABOUT OUR SHIPPING:
We ship internationally (- but not the plants!)
All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on
shipping, we will.
MORE ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: There is some confusion when checking out of our online store and seeing the shipping option of "Priority Mail." Priority Mail is the term the United States Post System calls their services. Anything over 1 pound
gets shipped by Priority Mail. They have done-away with Parcel Post. ~> It does not mean you get "priority" over anyone else's order. It's just what they call it. We are not able to send any order over a pound any other way. We choose to stay with USPS because they are least expensive, 98% reliable and they usually get your orders to you within 3 days at most. We've priced other services and USPS is our choice to save you money and ship your plants to you safely and quickly.
:o)
We appreciate and serve everyone regardless of race, color, gender, politics or religion. Viva la difference! If we were all the same, the world would be a very, very boring place to live.
We believe in Oneness, Kindness & Love.
