Fun Ideas For Spring!

Hi !

As I write this, I have two layers of fleece on and a skirt over my jeans to keep me warm. Lol! Can someone send spring to us pleeeese? Brrrr! The only good that comes from a cold spring - okay TWO good things: (1) The plants don't mind - they are growing anyway. (2) The spring flowers stick around for weeks! The cherry and plum trees are smelling wonderful. I hope you're enjoying the spring in your area!

A blew my Tuesday deadline and then had to cut myself off today and just get this week's Gazette sent out! There are SO many new things this season! I've got more next week too...

Oh, and speaking of spring - ICYMI, I've a few of our favorite deciduous trees and shrubs in stock early so you can appreciate the spring buds too. See the Spireas (summer flowers!), Willow, Tom Thumb, and the Barberries (spring flowers!)

INSIDER TIP: And head's up this season: We are seeing a LOT of shortages on a number of trees and plants this season due to Covid delaying just about everything. While we will ALWAYS have plant choices for you but we might not have "that" plant.

So, if you are thinking of a particular tree or "bedding plant" for your next miniature garden vision, grab it now. If you're not ready for it yet, we can hold it but purchase reserves the trees. (and send us a note on when to ship it.)

About this Garden

You might recognize this miniature garden from the Gardening in Miniature Prop Shop book: 37 Step-by-step Projects. It's the Spanish-themed garden with the two projects being how to make that mosaic tile patio and how to age the fountain to look old. See more details here.

The tree is the Evening Glow Coprosma. Dwarf Mondo Grass on the left and Green Carpet Hernaria is on the right. You can see how I've shaped the Evening Glow Mirror Bush to look like a little tree. Do this by gently pinching or snipping the leaves off the trunks to show some leg. :o)

This photo was taken in January of 2020. Now the shrub needs a definite shearing to make it bushy again. AND, now that I've taught myself some bonsai pruning techniques for the Gardening in Miniature Prop Shop book, I can now confidently edit some of the branches to make a better-looking miniature tree.

I'm going to take a wild guess and say that the shrub gets its name, Mirror Bush, from its shiny leaves. I know, reckless, right? See a pink version here.

FOUNTAIN: The fountain has been discontinued. Buy your miniature garden items when you see them or be prepared to make a second choice. In this case, with this fountain, there has yet to be a worthy substitute. (Don't shoot the messenger!) It's still a new hobby and some of the supply-chains are still iffy.

All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on shipping, we will.

MORE ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: There is some confusion when checking out of our online store and seeing the shipping option of "Priority Mail." Priority Mail is the term the United States Post System calls their services. Anything over 1 pound gets shipped by Priority Mail. They have done-away with Parcel Post. ~> It does not mean you get "priority" over anyone else's order. It's just what they call it. We are not able to send any order over a pound any other way. We choose to stay with USPS because they are least expensive, 98% reliable and they usually get your orders to you within 3 days at most.
