Hi !
Well, one upside to changing the timing of my Mini Garden Gazette: I got to do a Mardi Gras garden! I'm missing my miniature beads though - if you see them, let me know... and laissez les bons temps rouler! :o)
I hope this finds you well and safe and cosy and warm. What a week we had! I've put some insight below for our fellow miniature gardeners in the areas who have had unprecedented weather lately. It sounds like we're all digging out of some kind of weather. Our snowstorms here in Seattle shut down everything for the weekend but thankfully it's melting now. BUT I'm loving that I can still
play with my miniatures even when I can't get out to play in the garden!
Please stay safe, stay grounded & stay creative with a lil' miniature gardening.
Whatever you do make it fun,

That's our cedar trellis that I painted to look aged yet colorful. The signs are from the Gardening in Miniature Prop Shop book - in the Christmas chapter. in the foreground are dwarf Hens and Chicks - a really tough plant that can
handle freezing, drought, full sun, and it flowers too! The plants can be divided right away.
RESERVE YOUR SPRING TREES & SHRUBS
So, it's that time of year! While we always try to have a great selection of miniature garden trees and shrubs, not all the varieties are available at all times. To give all a fair chance at the spring trees and shrubs that we offer, we have a "purchase reserves the trees" program that we ONLY offer to our Mini Garden Gazette subscribers.
Which really means, if you are still frozen and see and miniature garden trees and/or shrubs that you like now, you can order them now and tell us when to send them.
This is ONLY for trees and shrubs - we can't save the ground covers or perennials for you unfortunately. *It's simply a matter of the timing: after 4 more months of the plant being in the nursery container during springtime, the biggest growth period of the year, the plant gets a bit stressed and we are just not able to provide you with a quality plant after
being held for the 3 or 4 months. Note that we always have a terrific spring selection of ground covers so not to worry!

I've been wanting to do a miniature garden at the base of this Fatsia plant now that it's gotten taller. I would normally have kept it shorter by cutting it back to keep it bushy an full - but I needed taller plants on my lanai.
So, by growing this a little differently, it left a "little" opportunity for another type of miniature garden. More details later this week...
About that Unprecedented Weather...
Okay, first, who else is completely tired of the word "unprecedented?" Lol & Arg!!
Hey, this is for all the fellow miniature gardeners in the areas that are experiencing freezing temperatures these past few days. I can only speak for my plants that we carry at TwoGreenThumbs.com as most of them are hardy to an average of -20F. So, in theory, your plants in your miniature gardens "should" be okay during this freeze. We do carry a couple that are only
hardy to freezing (32F) but almost all of the rest should be able to handle this freeze.
**Just make sure the roots of the plants stay watered.
You want the roots to be frozen NOT freeze-dried.**
Yes, you might look silly watering your plants right now but it's the only way to make sure they'll make it through. You would be surprised how fast the cold weather wicks away the moisture in the soil.
Also, if there is snow on your miniature garden, just leave it there. Snow is an insulator and will protect the plants if the temps dip even further.
If you've got Two Green Thumbs' plants, the biggest caution might just be your ceramic containers. If you found that your pot has broken in the cold, that's when you need to react and protect the rootball from drying out.
If the pot is just cracked - leave it in place, it'll be okay if you don't move it. If it's cracked and broken away from the rootball, cover the exposed parts with plastic, burlap or both. Cardboard works in a pinch as does evergreen branches but you are looking to keep the moisture in the rootball.
I'm sure I haven't answered all your questions with this wee article so hit reply and ask away!

ABOUT OUR SHIPPING:
We ship internationally (- but not the plants!)
All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on
shipping, we will.
MORE ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: There is some confusion when checking out of our online store and seeing the shipping option of "Priority Mail." Priority Mail is the term the United States Post System calls their services. Anything over 1 pound
gets shipped by Priority Mail. They have done-away with Parcel Post. ~> It does not mean you get "priority" over anyone else's order. It's just what they call it. We are not able to send any order over a pound any other way. We choose to stay with USPS because they are least expensive, 98% reliable and they usually get your orders to you within 3 days at most. We've priced other services and USPS is our choice to save you money and ship your plants to you safely and quickly.
:o)
We appreciate and serve everyone regardless of race, color, gender, politics or religion. Viva la difference! If we were all the same, the world would be a very, very boring place to live.
We believe in Oneness, Kindness & Love.
