Everyone! Back to the garden!

Hi ,
I hope this finds you and yours safe and well.
With everything happening in the world these days, I'm very grateful to have a lil' slice of paradise in my garden despite all my weeds and over-planted garden beds. At this time of year, I get a bit lazy with my garden chores and tend to let things go. Thankfully, a miniature garden is MUCH easier to weed and maintain AND you can do it sitting down. Lol!
After a taking couple of weeks off for our exclusive summer sale (that was just for you, my Mini Garden Gazette subscriber,) I'm glad to be back in the saddle again and posting new plants and accessories. I've also been hunting-down some ideas that I've had for a long time - and finally I'm able to make them happen. Look forward to a fun-filled-fall season and remember, you don't need a season nor a reason to garden in
miniature!
And a special shout-out to our fellow miniature gardeners in Texas and Louisiana who are still experiencing Hurricane Laura's wrath. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.
Please stay safe, stay grounded & stay creative with a lil' miniature gardening - and please be kind to one another, we are all in this one world together.
Whatever you do make it fun,
ABOVE: The Jaqueline Verkade Canada Hemlock stands proudly beside a wee Hinoki in our British-themed miniature garden from my Gardening in Miniature Prop Shop book. I was reminded of this photo because we have a similar Hemlock back in stock this week, the Gracilis Canada Hemlock.
PS - A big miniature garden THANK YOU to Susan from MN who bought us coffees
to thank us for all our hard work, inspiration and free info-tainment. We appreciate it, Susan! :o)
My Miniature Mood Garden - Adapted from an idea from Japan: The wife would turn the vase of flowers by the front door to suit her mood - which would tell the husband what to expect the minute he gets home.
So, for this triple-sided miniature garden, I did a casual scene with the brick, a formal scene with the white marble and a country-chic scene with the green stone. That's a Jervis Canada Hemlock in the middle. The pot is 22" wide - it was a water-bowl that we drilled a hole or two in for drainage. The brick, tile and stone are locked-in with our Mini Patio Mix Kit and won't wash away when you water nor when it rains.

The change of every season is always a good time to check-in with what worked, and what didn't, so you can learn from your mistakes and keep the focus on doing more of what it working. So, about now is a good time to take inventory of what trees and plants performed well for your miniature gardening and what gave up the ghost slowly - or quickly. Here are just a few things to think
about:
If you are a new gardener, sometimes it takes a bit of trial and error to figure out what works for your area, climate, soil and your lifestyle. Here are some things that have been brought to mind from your emails that I've been receiving lately:
If you found that you completely forgot to water, you can either change the location of the miniature garden to a cool sun (eastern sun,) or partial shady spot. This will slow-down the water evaporation and keep the soil more-evenly damp. Use a tray underneath the pot to corral the water and let it absorb back into the pot.
If you couldn't keep your plant happy, reconsider the basics: is there enough light? Too much light? Did you water enough? Or did you overwater? Is your water okay for plants or is it too hard and full of minerals?
If you planted in terra cotta pots, you might have found that your plants may not be doing well - unless they were a succulent or cacti that enjoy dry soil, that is. While the terra cotta pot is one of the least expensive pots, you'll undo your savings with plant replacements because the clay pot absorbs and draws water from the soil. Choose a glazed pot instead. The glazing
helps keep the soil damp and the roots cool.
If you moved a plant in mid season, it'll need TLC. Make sure the soil is healthy. Keep it in a cool or shady spot. Maintain the watering but watch that you don't over water and keep it away from any extreme. If you can, wait until it's dormant to move it.
If you've used a top-dressing and lost a plant, consider NOT using any top-dressing, like decorative pebbles or bark mulch, so you can see the soil. This will definitely help you keep on top of the watering because you'll be able to tell by the color of the soil as to wether it needs watering or not.

PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITES:
ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: We ship internationally (- but not the plants!) All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping
calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on shipping, we will.
MORE ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: There is some confusion when checking out of our online
store and seeing the shipping option of "Priority Mail." Priority Mail is the
term the United States Post System calls their services. Anything over 1 pound gets shipped by Priority Mail. They have done-away with Parcel Post. ~> It does not mean you get "priority" over anyone else's order. It's just what they call it. We are not able to send any order over a pound any other way. We choose to stay with USPS because they are least expensive, 98% reliable and they usually get your orders to you within 3 days at most. We've priced other services and USPS is our
choice to save you money, ship your plants to you safely and quickly. :o)
We appreciate and serve everyone regardless of race, color, gender, politics or religion. Viva la difference! If we were all the same, the world would be a very, very boring place to live... We believe in Oneness, Kindness & Love.
