A Miniature Garden Manifesto
(Photos may take a moment to load.)

Hi ,
Well it was a snowy week here in the PNW! We didn't get half the snow that most got here living in the south Seattle area but juuuust enough for some wintry photo ops - which is just enough for me. BUT we are watching the major freezing snowstorms flowing through the country as I write this - please stay safe and let me know if you have any questions about maintaining your miniature and fairy gardens over the
winter.
Many thanks for all the feedback last week. And many thanks Pat from MN who nudged me to include hardiness info - I had been forgetting to include that in my Gazettes as of late. Do let me know if you have any suggestions too - I work on the Gazettes solo so I do miss and forget things from time to time. Maybe one day I'll have an assistant to help me - maybe. one. day.
:o)
And Thank You! I'm collecting all your kudos to save for the days when I need inspiration. You know I wouldn't be here if I didn't have YOU! <3
And now, this is a first. In my 20 years of being at the helm of the miniature garden hobby, I've always wanted to write a Miniature Garden Manifesto. I've attempted it many times throughout the years but I guess I just wasn't ready. I think it may have been a question of wether I was on solid ground with my direction and my stance. This feels good. It's right here, up on my Mini Garden Guru blog. Let me know what you think in the comments on the blog or hit the reply.
Thank you for being a subscriber! Happy Miniature Gardening!
Whatever you do make it fun,
ABOVE: Kodak moments in the snow this week.

PS - A big mini-garden THANK YOU to Jan from WI, fellow MG who “bought us coffees” for Steve and I. Thank you for your encouraging note! <3

Our "big" 4' x 4' miniature garden a couple of days before the snowy photo shown above was taken. Set yourself up for those "Kodak Moments" and then get out there and take those photos while the moment is happening! Gardens big and small change
ALL the time but if you force yourself to take the time to photograph it - you'll have the photos forever.
That's the Wilma Goldcrest Monteray (Lemon) Cypress, hardy to 0F, in the left corner. The tree that you can hardly see in front of it is a Dwarf Pagoda Japanese Holly, hardy to -20F. That round shrub is our favorite Elf Dwarf Spruce, hardy to -20F.

From the Mini Garden Guru Archives:
A 101 Beginner Series Starts Here!
The spruce peeking in from the left side is the same Elf Spruce, (hardy to -20F.) The shrub to the right of the statue is a Just Dandy Hinoki Cypress that I've been trying to rejuvenate for a couple of years - it was under-watered at one point, got spindly and I've been trying to revive it. I think I'll replace that in the spring with something better. Hinoki Cypress are generally hardy to
-20F but don't like to dry out completely.
Behind the statue is the Zmatlik Dwarf Arborvitae, hardy to -40F, and a favorite of ours. The tree that has berries in the upper left is one of the Cotoneasters on Standard - the Striebs Findling variety. I think the Cotoneaster are generally hardy to at least -20F.

ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: We ship internationally (- but not the plants!) All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping
calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on shipping, we will.
