Hi ,
I hope this finds you enjoying the fab-fall months in your area. It's been dry and partly sunny here in Seattle this week and I'm just loving it! I'm eager to get back outside to do some more miniature gardening - I'm getting things ready for a big surprise...
It's something that I've never tried before so I'm a bit nervous about it - but I think I've collecting enough confidence to jump right in and start. It's going to start happening on our Facebook page next week - if you aren't a Facebook user but would like to "attend" or see what is up, hit the reply and I'll tell you about a workaround to join us. ;O)
THE SALE IS STILL ON! - I DIDN'T HIT MY GOAL - so I still need your help. I have some really juicy miniature garden products in the hopper (in scale, authentic, weatherproof...) - I've been working on these for months. I finally had a breakthrough this week BUT I need to clear some room for them! Arg! SOOOO it's time for a SALE!!
Any help would be very appreciated! We've got kits, ebooks, printed books as well as our many plants, trees and accessories. There is really something for everyone! We are still growing the hobby for you - we just really need to make a "little" room to grow! <3
Stock up now for Halloween, Thanksgiving, CHRISTMAS, winter craft projects or even stock up for NEXT spring because you KNOW some of these plants and accessories are in limited supply!
Thanks for reading and remember, whatever you do, make it fun,

- Watering - keep up with the watering even though it rains. Often times the rainfall doesn't amount to much and you'll need to make sure your containers and in-ground plants are still getting enough water even though the weather has cooled off. Be sure to check any pots or plants that are under your eaves too.
- Conifer Dieback - This happens every spring and fall as the conifers exfoliate. Deciduous trees, like Maples and Oaks for example, shed their all their leaves each fall but conifer shed their leaves a bit differently. AND our mini and dwarf trees and shrubs, because they are small, tend to hold this shedded-dead growth in
the middle of their branches. (If it was a big conifer, the wind would help blow it out.)
And what happens is that dead growth that is stuck in the tree prevents light and air getting through the plant and is suffocates and you'll get even more dying branches. So these tiny trees and shrubs need your help.
Here's how:
- part the branches of your mini or dwarf conifer gently
- if you see brown branches inside, this needs to be sloughed off
- if you see yellowing branches, wait a week or so for them to turn completely brown
- reach inside the conifer gently, with your fingers, and slough-off the dead foliage - kinda like giving the plant a shampoo, but with NO soap and water.
- slough off the dead foliage to the ground, then use a fork as a rake to clean it up from underneath the conifer.
- Crusty Soil - After a while, your container garden will develop a crust on top of the soil which will re-direct any watering efforts to the outside of the pot. Churn-up that top, crusty layer of soil to help the water absorb down into the middle of the pot so all the roots can get water.
- Mark your Deciduous Perennials! - I am SO guilty of doing this! Mark your deciduous perennials now, before they go completely dormant. (Those of you who have snow already should still be able to see the foliage, I suspect
they didn't have a chance to go dormant yet.) I've been experimenting with miniature painted rocks "painted" with Sharpie markers and sprayed with UV sealant/protectant spray. (Which you should have on hand for keeping your mini garden accessories as vibrant in color as possible.) I haven't tested these mini painted rocks before but you can experiment along with me!
Our deciduous perennial plant list from our store:
- Miniature Astilbe
- Miniature Iris
- Mini May Lilies
- Miniature Goldenrod
- Miniature Hostas
- I'm probably missing some... but you get the idea! :o)

And a Final Word About Our Shipping Methods
From a fellow MG, Diane, in the other corner of the country, in Vermont
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know - the box arrived partially squashed.
The post office usually does a good job. I was a little worried, but you do such a great job packing, the trees were in perfect shape!
I am in my 60's & have purchased a fair amount of plants over the years through the mail & many times they arrive in very sad shape. I don't do that any more except with Two Green Thumbs.
We are close to 3000 miles apart & yes, the plants arrive in 3 days but to any one who has any questions about how they will look when they arrive-- just look at the picture on line, that's what they will look like on arrival or maybe even better.
The [way you pack your plants,] there is no way for them to be damaged.
Thanks again for doing such a great job.
Diane in Vermont

ABOUT OUR SHIPPING: We ship internationally (- but not the plants!) All shipping costs are checked by Steve and we refund any savings promptly because of our wide range of unique inventory: we ship tiny miniatures, heavy patio materials and living plants, sometimes the automatic shipping
calculator "packs" the order in multiple boxes which costs more. Steve can pack better than any online shipping calculator can - if we can save you money on shipping, we will.
