Happy Summer Solstice!

Happy summer! Let the fun begin!

I thought I would share my summer agenda with you to give you inspiration to create one of your own for those just-in-case-days when you may forget your priorities. :o)

Janit's Summer To-Do List

1. Play with plants in my garden.

2. Entertain friends in the garden.

3. Keep on top of my weeding. (You're laughing at this one right? Yeah, me too. Lol!)

4. Work on my in-ground miniature garden design.

5. Sit in the garden and enjoy all the prettiness.

6. Deadhead my flowers to keep them blooming.

7. Read a book in the garden.

8. Keep in touch with my fellow MGs via my laptop - in my garden.

9. If it rains: play with my garden miniatures on my lanai, surrounded by my garden.

10. When in doubt, refer to #1.

Whew! WHAT an agenda! I'll let you know how it goes as we get into the season. I hope you set yourself up for some serious play-time in the garden whether you are playing with miniatures or full-size gardening. It's just a wonderful thing to be able to create, build and grow your own environment and surround yourself with things that bring you joy.

Remember that you can plant a container anytime of year. So go ahead, grab a couple of plants to play with tonight!

The experiment continues! We planted this miniature garden with very young annual starts on Mother's Day weekend last month - 6 weeks ago. You can see how the annuals are quickly filling up the garden now and getting out of scale - if you can look past the pretty flowers that is! Lol!

BUT because I planted all the little annual starts so close together, now those annual plants do not have room to grow properly and now are on top of one another. In the second photo, I have a Breathless Blush Euphorbia (white flowers,) Alyssum (purple flowers,) 4 Begonia starts (big petals, pink and white flowers,) and the Lotus Vine (blue-green foliage,) - all fighting for space in the tiny garden bed.

You can see in the third photo, looking at the health of the plants around the pond, that the plants are getting fussy about their lot in life. So I can either save my investment of $30 and dig out all the annuals to repot somewhere else OR I can watch the garden slowly "go to pot" and might lose that lovely row of miniature daisies as well as that Hinoki cypress that is now buried - it's to the left of the tree.

Fantastic foliage on the Miniature Astilbe is just awesome by itself. The tiny leaves are rimmed in red with heavy serrations that add a completely different texture to your miniature garden bed.
