Hi ,

In continuation of our early Valentine's celebration, I thought to share some of the lovely warm notes and letters that I've received over the last month. I collect all the kudos in a folder and whenever I need a boost, I read some of them over again. Some of them I print out and put on to my office wall for a spell. After reading them for a couple of minutes, I'm refocused, re-energized and I remember my mission!

Another go-to pep-talk-method of cheering up is playing with your miniatures, garden or garden miniatures. It really works because you simply can't be in a bad mood and think about a miniature garden at the same time!

It works like magic during these wintry days while we wait for the warmer weather. You can always make, build or renew your miniatures and get them ready for spring. Or you can plant a container anytime - even a mini garden in a container for outdoors. Just remember the golden garden rule and plant the right plant in the right place.

Mini-Mini-Garden-Tutorial

I've been working on some different ideas these last couple of weeks and found myself needing to verify some information every now and then. So, I hop on Google and clicked around for my answer - only to find really some strange answers sometimes! Arg!

I've written before about "How to Identify an Expert on the Internet" and this is a gentle reminder to choose reliable sources for your information. Just because they are first on the Google list of your search, doesn't mean they are reliable - it only means they have the money to pay to be first.

There are a lot of copy-cat gardening websites now as more and more people are creating gardening and lifestyle blogs with pretty pictures of perfect lifestyles to get your eyeballs to their advertisements so they can get paid. You'll find these people just about anywhere on any social media channel too, inviting you to click in.

What happens is, when the blogger starts to get tens of thousands of followers on Instagram for example, the sponsors and media start noticing and it snowballs. That blogger suddenly gets more ad-dollars coming in and feels the pressure to keep up - so they take shortcuts on their research and spend more time on the lifestyle photos that attract the eyeballs... and a bogus website with misinformation. Nice, huh?

So, after weeks of landing on dummy-websites, here is a new observation/update on how to find out if the website is legit: The very first sign of a questionable website is how many advertisements do they have flashing at you? If they have ads on the side, bottom and top of the page plus a pop-up and a video playing - they are there for the advertising money, not to educate or inform you.

That said, please enjoy our websites :o) where you WON'T find flashing ads of any kind, nor a pop-up blocking the page demanding your email address. I'm a soft-sell, which might be my downfall in this online game, but at least I can sleep at night.
