Hi ,
Happy Fall! It's a sun-shiny day here in the PNW - something that we've missed pretty much all summer. I'm finding
that I'm chomping at the bit to go outside and pull a weed or three. Maybe cut a branch. I know, I know, I'm SUCH a rebel. Lol!
I made a video about miniature topiary for you - once I started to assemble it, I realized I had a few examples around my gardens that I've been playing with throughout the years. It's easier
than you think but you will need to wait for the trees to grow-in or grow-up - BUT the best time to start one is NOW. :o)
And it's our first Fairy Garden Workshop is open for registration! We had a special request for a fairy garden class through The Handmade Showroom. It's in downtown Seattle on September 30th, from 2 to
5pm. It's all about the fairies so it's a rare one for me, indeed! See more of what you'll learn below - you know the arsenal that I'll bring with me so I guarantee you will learn more than a few techniques for your mini-making!
(Online Workshops - I haven't forgotten, I'm trying to find a good platform for us! If you know of any that you enjoy, I would love a
recommendation.)
Remember, whatever you do, make it fun,
ABOVE: An Instagram post after dragging Steve through Seattle traffic to do a talk for a garden club last Monday morning. It took us an hour to drive 10 miles only to find I got the date wrong - it was all for naught. Ugh. I made him spaghetti and meatballs for dinner - I think I'm forgiven. :o)
This week's video letter is all about Miniature Topiary! See what I came up with - I surprised myself. Lol!

fairy-garden exploits! Join us for Fairy Garden Workshop!
Date: Saturday, September 30, 2017 Time: 2:00pm to 5:00pm Location: Check-in at The Handmade
Showroom* at Pacific Place Address: 600 Pine Street, Suite 301 (3rd floor)
In this RARE workshop, (because you know Janit only goes to the fairy-side every once in awhile!) you will learn how to build a fairy's garden that can last for years PLUS you'll make a handmade birdhouse, a miniature log
border fence and a fairy arch too!
But wait, there's more! You will ALSO learn: - the difference between the
types of fairy gardening,
- about finding the right miniature plants and trees,
- how to work with natural materials to make them last,
- what kind of natural materials to look for,
- joining techniques that last,
- what glues to use for outdoors and when to use them,
- all about scale,
- how to add the magic,
- and much more!
What you'll leave with is an indoor/outdoor miniature garden (8" x 15") in a lovely ceramic container with a built-in saucer. Planted with a Lemon Cypress tree that, well, smells like lemon! You'll make the wee fence and birdhouse - OR there will be pre-made accessories and "blanks" there as well so you'll be guaranteed to leave with a stellar fairy garden!
~~~~~~~~ New and improved Fairy House Kits include enough for TWO houses and more instructions! (Email us for these instructions if you are one of the previous buyers in need of them! :o) ~~~~~~~~
