Hi ,

I hope this finds you with "real" spring weather happening! It's official - we've had the coldest and wettest spring in history here in Seattle. Perhaps I should buy a boat. Lol!

I'm back from Chicago and what a treat that was! I've included some of my very favorite miniaturists' work here for you to see with links to their websites so you can dote on them some more. Just awesome! More videos and a deeper recap will be up in the Miniature Garden Society later next week.

And a gentle reminder that Mother's Day is May 14th and I guarantee your Mom will love miniature gardening too. <3

Remember, doing what you love to do spreads more love. :o)

Whatever you do, make it fun,

ABOVE: A rare moment for a quick photo at The Miniature Show
in Chicago last weekend.

And Just in Case You Thought
I Was Any Different... Lol!

Ugh. I do it every winter. There is always SOMETHING I leave outside to freeze! I loved this pot - it's a rare color AND it's featured in my new Gardening in Miniature Prop Shop book too. You would think that I would have protected it from freezing?

What happened? Moisture absorbs into the pottery and when it freezes and expands, that's when it either breaks the pottery or, in this case, it has flaked off the glaze. Maybe I'll mosaic it this summer.

Other winter casualties include my Dahlia bulbs that turned into a rotted mess - it's the FIRST winter I leave them in the ground! Who knew it would be so wet?

And, I lost a couple of newly transplanted trees. Normally it's not a big deal in temperate Seattle but I transplanted some trees way too late - INCLUDING my beloved, 14 year old Tompa Spruce!  What was I thinkin'?

This is why we take photos of our work, eh?

Thankfully they don't grow on trees
- they ARE trees!
and NOW there is room for new ones!

:o)

Chicago Highlight: Julia of Aristocratic Attic does such beautiful work in miniature, you'll want it full-sized too. Here is her etsy store. Find "Aristocratic Attic" on Facebook and Instagram (@Aristocratic_attic_minis) where she shares her current artworks often. You can get hold of her through those channels too. Honestly, I want one of her tutus for ME!!! Lol! <3

Chicago Highlight: Jason Getzan works in metal and in miniature. Checkout this wonderful, one-of-a-kind chair in one-inch scale! He works in bronze and builds each part by hand - meaning it's not cast. He's a lover of nature too. He had me at hello. Lol! See more of Jason here.
Chicago Highlight: Awesome work by Michael Yurkovic of AtomicMiniature.com. The wee animals are by Beth Freeman. Both are IGMA artisans - or International Guild of Miniature Artists - which really means the cream of the cream. Humbling and awesome. Click in to see more of Michael's work here. :o)

Have Miniature Garden, Will Travel
...or Maybe Not.

Alright, that may have not been a good idea. Lol! Remember this from last month?

I lugged my miniature moss garden all the way to Chicago and back for the Miniature Art Prize contest. It tumbled through the x-ray machine going through security both ways. One of the officers had to ask what it was. Lol! That file-box fit perfectly in the overhead bin - thankfully - I hadn't considered that little detail.

After displaying it at the show, I don't think anybody but a few realized it was alive. It didn't help being on the bottom shelf of the cabinet either. BUT, I know our Fellow Miniature Gardeners that came voted for me! Thank you! <3 Ya gotta try, right?  :o)
