 Mini Garden Gazette
Still Planting Time!
**Photos may take a moment to load**

Hi ,

What a busy time of year with Dad and Grad celebrations happening everywhere! Thank goodness you have miniature gardening to fall back on so you don't have to shop for their presents, just create them. Lol!

When I first started out, 99% of this hobby was done by women. I'm thankful that more and more men have found pleasure in this hobby now because there is sooo much to it! We find Dads have more fun with the garden part than the miniatures though: planting and caring for the trees and shrubs with perhaps one birdbath or bbq to tell the scale. Any excuse to create a miniature garden, eh? ;o)

We have our usual display at the big Sorticulture Garden Art Show that I completely forgot to give you a head's up on. Apologies! It's in Everett at the Legion Memorial Park that overlooks the Puget Sound and it's on Saturday the 11th and Sunday the 12th. Click here for their website with all the info - it's my favorite show because they have a ton of plant AND art vendors there.

Thank you for being our subscriber!

Whatever you do, make it fun,

About our Miniature Garden Display

Our Sorticulture display has always been in the west garden bed at the Legion Memorial Park in Everett, Wa. The garden bed is slowly getting planted by the gardeners so our display area is slowly shrinking.

Normally we bring our big miniature gardens to make more of an impact but because of Steve's wounded shoulder, (ICYMI: He took a bad tumble in the garden playing with the dog,) I had to be able to carry everything by myself. So what I ended up with was a mash-up of different miniature gardens.

Because the gardens were on the small-side, I needed to get them up to some sort of eye-level so people wouldn't be looking down on them and just seeing the tops of the trees. So I used this old furniture set to display them on. It ended up to be a decent display - it looks better in person though. That's our Cover Girl in the back in the blue bowl - she's on the cover of our bestselling
Gardening In Miniature book. I'll include more detail shots of them in the next Mini Garden Gazette too.

See more of our displays here, on our Flickr Photo Album page.

I planted this up last year with non-drought-tolerant miniatures and learned the hard way to only plant tough plants in a broken-pot garden. Because the container isn't whole, the soil has a hard time staying damp. These Sedums and Sedum cuttings won't mind drying out often. I'll probably have to redo this little guy by next spring. I used silicon glue for the stack of wee bricks up the sides. The pot is about 9" tall.

What to do when your little tree dies? Paint and decorate it! Lol! This little Jersey Jewel Japanese Holly didn't make it through one of our weird heatwaves this past spring. Arg! After lamenting the loss of my little friend, I decided to have a bit of fun with it and make it into a wee fairy garden. The pot is about 8" tall.
