The Mini Garden Gazette
Happy Halloween!!
Hi ,

Happy Halloween! Here's what's in store for you, our dear reader:

We actually have something authentically scary to show you this year! It happened earlier this week and we got a chance to video-tape it - and we're still recovering!

We also got out some more miniature Halloween ideas this week for your DIY fun and entertainment by mixing it up a bit and adding a little Mexican flavor to our seasonal scene. Plus a short pumpkin DIY to add to your full-sized decorations.

There was an omission in last week's Gazette: After all that talk about Back to the Future, I forgot to link my blog post to it. Doh! Linked below.

New items are in the store and, did you know you can "Shop by Size" too? Read on and find links fun, info and inspiration!

And whatever you do, make it fun,

MORE Spooky Ideas for Halloween:
(And the link to the VERY SCARY video... ;o)

Okay, I think I might just have a chance at legitimately scaring you this Halloween. But before I do, let me show you what ideas we’ve come up with this year for decorating your miniature garden for the big, yet scary, day... Read on, click here.

Get a Little Swirled

This ideas has been swirling around the Internet for a few years. I finally got it together only to miss posting it on the blog! So, here it is, an exclusive for you!

Oh, and after dusting off my Dremel and getting to it, I found out it wasn't as messy - or as hard - as I thought it would be.

[A Dremel is a type of small drill that you can hold in your hand. The size makes it easier to control and you can do a lot of different detail-work with it. Works on a variety of materials too and the bits and attachments are endless, it seems. As a miniature gardener, I don't use mine very often, so if you can borrow one, do so. But as an artist, I would love a reason to use mine more often, it is a neat tool to play with.]

Carving with a Dremel Tips:

- Hold both the Dremel and the pumpkin firmly, to make sure the bit doesn't skip away on the pumpkin.

- I used the carving bit with the small ball on the top.

- Start at the backside of the pumpkin. You can practice before you get to the front.

- Empty it out and carve out the bottom before you start with the pattern so you don't mangle your work.

- Take off layers at at time rather than trying to go deep all at once.

- Find a small, curved spoon-like utensil to clean out the grooves.

- Use a soft toothbrush after cleaning out the swirls to get rid of the goblety-gook. (<~ A technical term used in miniature gardening.)

 BACK IN STOCK!

Mini Garden Love Seat - Double Adirondack Bench, as seen on page 154 of the Gardening in Miniature book. See more photos of it, click here.

Terra Cotta Brick Sheet - The real deal. High fired bricks pre-mounted on a mesh sheet for easy patio-making. Cut them with kitchen scissors. Perfect for areas that don't freeze too much, or for indoor mini gardens. We've used them here in Seattle for over 12 years now, and they've done well in the limited freezing. Available in square or rectangle shape.

Miniature Daisies! - Yep. Daisies. In Miniature. Can't get any better than that. They are still blooming now too. They'll stop flowering soon and start again in the late spring. A favorite! See them here.

We had some fun with the Orange Halloween Lights and, as I mentioned before, the only thing wrong with them is how to photograph them at night. Lol! We have them in Red-Blue-Green for the Holidays and in White in two lengths, on battery-powered and the other electric.
