The New! Mini Garden Gazette
Happy Autumn
Breezes... |
Hi ,
It's 70 degrees and sunny as I sit and write this. Did I move and not know it?
Perfectly unusual weather for Seattle - it's normally raining so much that we are growing gills by now. We did get a nice down-pour a few days ago which really helped drench the gardens beds. Everything has become green again since the drought ended last month, thankfully!
Welcome to your new weekly newsletter - we
are working on changing everything from monthly to weekly, including us.
With fall in the air, read on to find winterizing tips for your containers and your in-ground gardens. A little effort now will make the transition easy and stress-free.
Oh, and we hit another milestone with The Little Hobby That Could. Our Facebook page hit the 10,000 likes mark! Wowsa! Apart from the staggering number of followers, I'm not sure if anything really comes out of it. No balloons or congratulatory cards have come, no free coffee, no calls from the owner, Mark Zuckerberg, either. I will certainly let you know if fanfare does come our
way. Lol!
Thank you for being a subscriber and, as always, whatever you do, make it fun,

Preparing for Winter in the Miniature Garden
A little prep-work can get you through the winter months safely and without regret. The main thing to worry about for any container overwintering outdoors is watering, funnily enough. The plant's roots will do fine if they are frozen but not freeze-dried. Keep an eye on the soil's moisture level up until it freezes AND keep watering your containers throughout the winter if they don't get enough.
You can use these winterizing tips for your regular garden containers and your full-sized garden beds too. These links will take you to the Mini Garden Guru blog:

The Only Thing Wrong...
...with these
miniature string lights is photographing them. Lol! The above scene is completely lit-up with one string of the mini lights. Pretty, huh?
They are working out very well in our miniature garden testing bed. The battery packs seem
immune to any moisture - we've left them out in the rain and we've watering them along with the plants too. They've been out for over 3 months now and don't show any signs of wearing or weathering. I've rearranged them several times and they are not as fragile was we first thought.
We love how they light up the night and they are especially enchanting when you see them in the garden from inside the house - it makes the miniature garden look surreal!
The
battery powered strings have a timer option on the battery pack. You can always put the plug-in string on a timer along with your full-sized holiday lights for a low-maintenance show.
Grab yours in time for the holidays
so you can share your miniature garden displays when your family and friends throughout the season.
