As I sit here writing this, there is another "atmospheric river" drenching Seattle and we're about to buy a boat - if only I could figure out how to get my gardens and studio on it. Lol! Thankfully we've already prepped for "epic weather" last week. Know that this atmospheric river will make its way across the country in various forms but if you are prepared for it,

Above: The tree on the left is a leggy Cumulus Cypress. The skinny broadleaf in the middle is the Sky Pencil Holly and the tree with the chartreuse leaves is a leggy Fernspray Cypress that I've shaped into a tree form. (It's the same garden I used on October 7th.)

More details on the anniversary garden: This garden was so big, (21" in diameter,) I couldn't resist putting in a miniature garden in a miniature garden. It's little details like this that truly delight the viewer and lures them in to taking a better look.

What's New? -
Alpine Ferns are Back in Stock! These miniature ferns are only available a couple of times a year. They stay small but they'll spread - and really start to spread after a few years if they have room. Recall the garden saying which applies to a lot of plants: "The first year they sleep, the second year they creep and the third year they leap." If you are aware of this
growing pattern you can stay on top of the "leaping" and either keep them shovel-pruned* or divide them every third winter or early spring.
*Shovel pruning = Literately chopping the underground runners with a shovel each spring to prevent the shoots from spreading further.
